Tulip Festival?

We've been going to the Tulip Festival at Thanksgiving Point for the past 3 years. I guess it has become a fun little tradition. Sara and I (and now Aaron too) go with my sister and her kids and we usually have a good time. Maybe that's not really true. Last year, when I was 6 months pregnant I thought that Sara could handle the very long walk and decided not to bring my stroller. Well, she could handle the walking, but she could not resist the beautiful flowers. After being warned, she continued to pick them and the only thing I could do about it was carry her, a screaming 3-year-old, a half of a mile back to the car. So I guess that wasn't a good time. But the flowers have always been beautiful.

This year we've had a long winter, but I thought that if they were advertising for their tulip festival, there must be tulips. Boy, was I wrong. Sure, there was one here or there, but nothing substantial. It pretty much looked like what's going on in my yard. Therefore, I have no pictures to commemerate the event. So why am I writing about this? I guess I just want to put down in words how I wasted money this week. Sara also revealed her disappointment by asking, "Why was there no dancing?" Turns out she thought the tulip festival should include dancing tulips.

Sittting, At Last

Finally Aaron is sitting up on his own!!! I've been stressing out because he is 9 months old and can't sit up. Since he was born a month early, I've known that he will probably learn to do things like sitting, crawling, and walking a little bit later than the other babies his age. But I didn't expect sitting to take this long. My sweet baby has always had a special love for me, his mommy, in that if I'm around the only thing he wants is to be held. So the past months have been hard on me because I can only put him down for literally 2 minutes before the wailing begins. This makes doing anything around the house (like sweeping, dishes, laundry) nearly impossible. Anyway, enough with the "waah, waah, waah, poor Veena." Than has been working with Aaron more the past few days to help him sit, since it wasn't working to well with me. And then last night--Aaron turned into a "big" baby. He sat for 10-15 minutes and loved it. He was laughing and playing and just as happy as could be. I didn't get a picture last night, so today at lunch--yes, McDonald's--I snapped a few. If you look closely you can see that Aaron is NOT resting his back against the highchair.
Now for a Sara story. She is 4, but I find that she still needs to take a nap everyday or else she turns into a grumpy beast of a girl. Today we were driving home in the afternoon and I knew that she would not be keen on the idea of a nap, so I tried to strike a bargain with her. She likes driving home one way where we go up this big hill. She asked if we could go the big hill way and I told her we could, but then she'd have to take a nap when we got home. Her response was, "So if we don't go up the big hill, then I don't have to take a nap?" She's getting too smart for me.

Even though I am a mom to a 4 year old and a 9 month old, I absolutely HATE carrying around a huge diaper bag. So I dump the essentials into what I think is the cutest bag ever. I got it at a bazaar in Provo right before Christmas and I've been loving it ever since.

The contents: 1 diaper, wipes, toys, a jar of baby food, spoon, Cheerios, empty sandwich bag for gross things, bib, burp cloth, receipts, cell phone, dollars, change from the very bottom, pony tail holders, Chapstick, keys, wallet. I also keep another bag in the back of the car always with a change of clothes for each kid, more diapers, and toys.

So I guess I need to tag some people. How about Amy, Amy, Gerty, and Traci--what's in your bag?

An unwelcome suprise

Can you see it? Something trying to hide amongst the leaves? Something that YOU wouldn't want to find on the side of your house, right next to your front porch?


Yesterday, my sis and I were working in my yard, cutting back my rosebushes. I was in the midst of cursing myself for planting such beastly bushes when I turned behind me and caught a glimpse of something terrifying (to me, at least). There, tangled in my honeysuckle, was the most ginormous wasps' nest I ever saw. I freaked. We went inside because we didn't want to upset anything that might be living there. Lucky me that I have the best bro-in-law in the world who came over and took care of the thing for me. He sprayed it with some wasp killer stuff and then cut the nest out of my vine. He busted the thing open on the sidewalk and we found that the wasps had vacated their home awhile back. Phew! But isn't that the coolest thing ever? It was huge! The photos don't do it justice. It was literally the size of a basketball. My sister said, to her, it looked like Voldemort on the back of Quirrell's head for those of you Harry Potter fans.
